STORY OF AJA

From the Western Africa Yuruba mythology, the story of Aja is born. Aja is
one of the many Orishas (Gods and Semi-Divine heroes) in Yuruba culture.
The many Orishas came to be because of the great sky father, Olorum, who
was responsible for the creation of the world order, and his son, Orunmila,
who is the god of wisdom and divination. The story is told that many of the
Orisha’s were asking Orunmila for the powers that he possessed. Perplexed
as to what to do, Orunmila came across a chameleon, Agemo, who advised
him instead of appointing each Orisha with a power, to be fair and let his
powers rain from the sky and let the Orisha search and discover these
powers. In this process, Aja discovered the ability to be a powerful healer.
She is the patron of the forest and herbal healers. Aja, also known as “wild
wind”, would carry you away on a journey into the depths of the forest.
There she would teach you the medicinal properties of the plants. Upon
your return, one would be blessed with her powerful magic.
